While there are currently no bills before the house or senate related to our mission, as a constituent it is important to keep issues related to babies and families top of mind for your Senator or Representative. A quick visit to his/her office, a phone call or emailing telling them of your personal story can have a long-lasting impression.
It is quick and easy to find the appropriate contact information, just visit www.senate.gov or www.house.gov and plug in your information. A good place to start would be to ask for a proclamation commemorating October as SIDS, Pregnancy and Infant Death Awareness Month. Here is a sample for your use. Tip: ask to pick up your proclamation in person, it is a great photo opportunity for the local media!
In-person visits are preferable if possible because you can leave them with your story, a picture of your baby or anything else that would make the visit memorable. But if a letter or email fits your comfort zone, just make it as compelling as possible.
